~Custom Work~
(books are closed)
Once in a while someone convinces me to do a custom for them. Due to time constraints, my prices have to be raised so I'm not making .50 cents an hour. I go off of a base of roughly $20 per hour. I cannot estimate how many hours it will take me~ I'm just really bad at knowing how much will be involved in a given project until I start cutting it apart. Anatomy is not 'forgiving' and it has to be done right. I will take the time to do it 'right', not fast.
If you are interested in a custom from me, it could be with me for a year or more and it will not be cheap. Often I turn down jobs because I am simply at a point where I am overwhelmed and too busy, or I have a couple other customs still waiting to be started. I want a result that my customer is thrilled with, so once I take on a job, I'm all in as far as giving you what you want, and doing an excellent job. I happen to be a perfectionist, so sometimes that means it takes longer. I am also working customs in between regular sculpting, casting, shipping, etc. However, I usually do not have more than 3 customs in my studio at one time, so there is not a massive backlog.
This page is to show off some of the custom work I've done over the years. As you will see, I especially like to customize manes, tails and tweak ears :) I rarely do a major custom job, simply because I have to like the original sculpture to begin with. I am inspired to enhance what is already there through some minor work that will make a good sculpture fabulous. This is by no means a complete showing of all the customs I've done over the years, but it gives you an idea for what I enjoy.
I don't advertise customizing services, as I prefer to do what inspires me and offer it for sale. However, I am asked regularly to do CM work and in the past I usually said yes . It is taking away too much time from my regular sculpting and preventing me from finishing up the sculptures I want to work on, so my 'default' position is that I am not taking any new customs.

Valentin II special order for a customer. I gave him larger hooves, new feathers, removed his entire mane from the left side of his neck, resculpted his whole neck and put his mane on the right side. To top it off, he got a flicked ear and a swishing tail!
This Independence was a custom order for his owner, completed in Dec. 2014. I totally changed his neck and head position and gave him a new windblown mane, tail and forelock.
Eberl Jorinde, Friesian mare completed and sold in 2014. I just love this mare's face. She was the opitome of everything Frisian except I didn't like her neck. So I gave her a beautiful arched, long friesian neck, turned her head and resculpted her forelock, mane and tail.
Custom Andre'. This is the most extensive custom I have ever done to a resin. Mostly because I completely changed his head and face. Overall I wanted it to be smaller, so I cut his muzzle off and changed the position, re.sculpted his eyes, muzzle, profile, jaw/cheek muscles, etc. I flicked his ears back and filled them with fuzz. I also dramatically changed his neck, giving it a thick, stallion like arch. Lastly, I resculped all his hair~ what a job removing all those feathers! His rear feathers are not complete in some of the photos. Completed 2015.
Eberl Beatrix~ a special order for her owner. She got all new hairs :)
This is a special order Ahzam done to his owner's specifications. He received a new mane, tail and forelock and flicked his left ear back. I also spent hours just cleaning him up, adding details back in where they were very rough or just not there. Completed 2015.
This Conquistador was a special order for a customer. She wanted him made into a Friesian cross. Heather Bullach painted and photographed him. She did such and incredible job. He's stunning~the perfect color beautifully executed.
Sharif #3 ~ a special order for his owner. He got an all new mane and tail. Beautiful bay was painted by Tammy Palmarchuck.
Traditional Scarlett #1: She got a long swishing tail with a longer mane and forelock to match and her left ear flicked back.
Custom Favina: New mane, tail neck lowered and head position changed, ears twitched and custom work to her face
Custom Chica. new mane, tail and forelock.
Custom El Monumento: New mane, tail and forelock. I turned his head and flicked his ears back.
Custom Esperanza~ New mane, tail, and forelock and ears twitched.
Custom Gazal: New mane, tail and forelock.
Custom Gustav: I resculpted his mane, tail and forelock~ trying to keep very close to the original. Gustav is my all time favorite resin, and I did not want to completely change the look of the sculpture.
CM Haggis: This was an order for a customer who wanted a specific look. I rarely do these, preferring to just do what I feel inspired to do.
Custom Indian Fire: Again, a new mane, tail and forelock.....and ears twitched :)
Custom Ravenhill to a ratty haired appaloosa.
Custom Violetta #1. This is one of my all time favorite mane/tail combos I've done. This girl remains in my collection, unpainted.
Custom Violetta #2, done years after the first one. I was trying to sell her unpainted and couldn't get a buyer. Needless to say, once customized, she was snatched right up. The lower part of her tail is the second optional Desperado tail I sculpted years ago.
Custom Violetta #3.... A differentl look with a fuller, raised 'Arab' tail.
Custom Kladruber to Andalusian. I did extensive customizing on his body, head and neck to achieve a very different overall look. I had to add to his topline and remove bulk from his underline. Cutting through his neck to reposition and resculpt it was necessary as well. Of course, he got new hair to top it all off.
Custom Eberl ( Spago? I can't remember his name).... I did extensive work to his neck, cutting it about halfway down and repositioning and then resculpting it. I also have him new tail hairs.
Custom Flamenca. I added some flesh to her rump to fill her out a bit more. Her neck was cut off about halfway down and repositioned/lowered so her head set was more natural and on the bit. I have her a new, fuller tail and ended up giving her a braided mane which was not complete in the unpainted photos. She went on to win National Champion in Australia!
Custom Welsh mare: This was an order for a customer that requested specific details for the mane, tail and forelock. They wanted a very 'pony-like' hairdo and I think she turned out cute.
CM Lohengrin. This guy was a custom order for a new, long mane and the original tail 'rehaired' to match.
CM Willoughby. This guy was in my personal collection for years. When I customized him, it was for myself to keep, but I ended up selling him in the long run. I totally resculpted his right stifle area. I cut his neck about halfway down and re-set his head and resculpted the neck. I have him a new, full tail and pulled mane.
Traditional Ravenhill with a new mane and tail.
